On the second day of Breakthrough, the teachers chose the first superstar student of the summer.10-year-old Marlene Nazario wasn’t expecting to be picked.

“I was really surprised I didn’t know they were going to pick me,” Marlene said.

Widdi Seraphin, the teacher that announced the star and her village leader, said she picked her for a reason.

“On the first day she was really shy and quiet but later on during the day if we did an energizer she would jump in,” Widdi said.
Marlene likes it here at Breakthrough.

“Its really fun, very energetic all the teachers and kids are fun,” said Marlene.

She decided she wants to come back next year as a seventh grader.

Marlene’s favorite subject is math, but her favorite teacher is Jason who teaches 6th grade English.

Marlene collects stickers, rides her bike for fun and likes reading books about vampires.

“She’s a great friend. I think everyone should be her friend”12-year-old Diana Escobar said.
